Sacrificial Pledge
Sunday, 17 February 2008

This weekend, I invite you to come to Lind Hall after Mass to a parish-wide reception for our Building a Legacy of Faith campaign. For the last three weeks, we have held get-togethers and at these receptions I have spoken about what the Lord has placed in front of us. I believe that we are called to raise all the money we need, so that we can build what all of us need and want: a new worship space (twice as large as our current church), a parish hall and additional meeting rooms. Many of our parishioners have attended one of these receptions; but many of you… reading this column… have not attended a reception. Please, come downstairs to Lind Hall, and hear about our plans.

To accomplish what I believe is the plan of God for SJN, we must have a sacrificial pledge from every household.

Sacrificial = this pledge will require us to change our lifestyle for the next three years (the length of the pledge). We are called to sacrifice the luxuries and “fun things” of life so that we can take the dollars saved by conscious simplicity and pledge those dollars to the program of building at SJN.

Pledge = this takes a BIG gift from everyone…everyone reading these words. Writing us a check for an extra $100 will not build what we want and need to build. To pledge means to commit a significant portion of your income to this Building a Legacy of Faith, over a three year period of time. These three years will allow you to give more of your resources to our efforts.

To accomplish what the Lord has placed in our hearts will require from you, a sacrificial pledge. We will not give an equal amount, but we are called to sacrifice equally…to consciously change our lifestyles…for the greater glory of God and for our joy and for the legacy of faith we will leave for our children and their children.

Please come to Lind Hall and hear what we care called to do.

In order to invite our Hispanic parishioners to join in the Building a Legacy of Faith, I will celebrate or speak at the Masses in Spanish this weekend. I will invite our Hispanic parishioners to join in the call to sacrificial giving. ALL are called to share in this effort.

We can succeed in what we are called to do if we have an extraordinary response from each of you. We will “sink or swim” together: a few cannot raise the funds we need to build what we need and want to build. It takes each of us to pledge sacrificially…knowing that this is of God. It takes your sacrificial pledge. Come to the reception at Lind Hall today. Come and see.

I pray that you hear this call, and respond with generosity of time and talents and treasure!
