Our Preschool and Our Health

Msgr. David TalleyThis weekend, we hope to offer all of you a look at SJN's New Preschool. What was once Lind Hall (the lower level of the parish Administration building) is now a brand new preschool. And it is beautiful! If all goes as planned, we will have an open house this weekend.  Come and see what we have been able to do, for our young families and the future of our parish.

Though we are all very excited with the new Preschool, it was not a planned undertaking. It's important to remember what we've experienced during the last two years. In the midst of the construction of our new church building (phase one of our BLF project), we experienced the worst flooding seen in the area, since records have been kept. You all remember it: Tom Smith Road was a lake; the former church nave was flooded; Lind hall was flooded; the school was flooded; and the Neumann Center was completely ruined.

As we dried out and began to look at the damage, we learned that the county would not let us re-build the Neumann Center as it was before. Hearing this, we knew that we had to find a place for our Preschool, formerly set in the Neumann center for years and years. We looked at building off property. We looked at option after option. Finally, the decision was made to turn Lind Hall into the permanent site for our Preschool, knowing that the soon-to-be- constructed Parish Hall (the former church) would provide the parish a space for large gatherings.

We have been able to do this through the strong service of the members of our Finance Council, the leadership of Deacon Bill Marten and the continuing financial support of each of you that offer a sacrificial portion of your treasure to the parish (and the work of God).

Do you remember the health survey that Jonny and Gloria Andia offered the parish some months ago? Well, these two professionals have gone through the results of the survey and have put together various health classes for the parish (watch the bulletin for a schedule of the classes). These parishioners will speak at next weekend's Masses, to outline what they will offer in their series. The care of our health is an aspect of stewardship that you and I need to look at more closely. God is the giver of all gifts, and we are called by God to manage these gifts as good stewards of his grace.
