Five Items

Msgr. David TalleyPlease read carefully the following five items of news for our SJN family.

FIRST, please remember that there is a "food for Haiti" drop-off this Sunday, from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM, in the lower parking lot. Cases of food are available for purchase at our near-by Publix and Kroger stores. Cases at these two stores range from $5 to $25. Please join in feeding the Lord's hungry. Call or contact Mary Moorman (404-345-4484, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for details on SJN's efforts to assist the people of Haiti.

SECONDLY, we have set a date for the Dedication Mass of our new worship space. Archbishop Gregory will preside at this dedication liturgy on the evening of the 3rd of June. Once our construction team told me that is was fairly safe to set a date for the dedication, I contacted the Archbishop's office. There was only one date in May and one day in June open and available to us. So, we chose the open date of the 3rd of June. Please pray with me that we have good construction weather and all the work gets completed! The time of the liturgy and all other information about the evening will follow in the weeks and months ahead. Mark your calendars now, and get ready to help in the preparation!

To "whet our taste" for our new church, we will have a walk-through of the space NEXT SATURDAY (the 13th), from 9 am until 2:30 pm. Why not join Padre Armando at the Saturday morning Mass and then join both of us for a walk-through of the new space? This will be a walk-through, with no specific times for "tours", but we will have some of the BLF team present to try and answer any question you might have about the space. We'll do our best! All are welcome and encouraged to come and see, but elementary and middle schoolers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is still a construction site, so maximum care needs to be taken by all to prevent any accident. Please plan to walkthrough our new facility on the 13th. You should park near the construction trailer and enter the lower level of the facility through the large covered entrance on the "creek side" of the structure. Come and see what your sacrificial "Building a Legacy of Faith" donations have accomplished!

THIRDLY, our Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a golf-tournament on the 25th of April, at the Country Club of Gwinnett. All you golfers, of whatever flavor, mark your calendars for 25 IV. Proceeds from this outing will support the needs of SJN as well as the relief efforts of the Missionaries of the Poor in Haiti. Right now, we need business men and women to sponsor the event. The hole sponsorship is $500 (which includes a free 4-some) and $250 (which includes a free 2-some). Other donations are cheerfully accepted! Please call or contact Fred Olsen (770- 978-8568, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Mike Clarke (678-480-8511, mike@ newworldcomputers.com) for more information. Give them a call, you sponsors. Its good advertisement for your business and it'll be a blast! Four please... SJN now teeing off!

FOURTHLY, please know that there will be a open seat on our Pastoral Council at the end of June. Karen Madore's term will be completed at the end of June. If you have an interest in being considered for a three year term on the SJN Pastoral Council, please watch for more information on the application process in the weeks to come. The application process will run from March to the 10th of May.

FIFTHLY, I asked the Pastoral Council to discuss our delayed Time & Talents Fair/Expo, originally scheduled for September, but canceled due to the floods and the weeks of clean-up aftermath. The members of the Pastoral Council suggested that with the "ramping up" of the work that will be required of many for the organization of our Dedication Mass, it would be prudent to simply wait until the fall of 2010 to hold our next Time & Talents Fair/Expo. Deborah and Bob Wannemacher, co-chairs of our Stewardship Council, agreed with the suggestion of the Pastoral Council. So, we will wait until the fall to organize the Fair/Expo. But please know that our ministries are alive and well at SJN, and are asking for your involvement. Right now, Ruth Poss (678-684-3926) is looking for a few more to assist in the washing and ironing of the Altar linens, a "hidden" ministry but oh so important. Please stay on the look-out, in the bulletin and our web-page, for opportunities to serve in the gift of your time and your talents... for the greater glory of God.

Post from the Past

God Is With Us
Next Sunday, we will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. In that Gospel proclamation, we will hear the Risen Lord speak to St. John Neumann, saying to us: and behold, I am with you always, until the end of the ages (Mt.28.20b). This assurance that God-is-with-us still gives us the strength of faith, as we trust in the gifts and Presence of the Holy Spirit.

Though I know that we will have wonderful celebrations of the Ascension, at our ten Sunday Masses, I’ll have to hear about those celebrations from you on my return. Next weekend, I’ll be about an hour away from Lilburn, at the site of Toni’s Camp. This Archdiocesan retreat experience is designed to celebrate that God-is-with-us in and through the faith-community of those living with various disabilities. Many from our parish (including several of our teenagers) will join me for next weekend’s Toni’s Camp experience: some will come as campers, some will come as counselors… all of us will come as sons and daughters of God. Please pray for all of us at Toni’s Camp next weekend, as we seek to find joy in the Lord’s love and in the loving fellowship of disciples, whatever our ability or dis-ability.
