Thursday Night Sessions

Msgr. David TalleyStarting in the fall, SJN will offer ongoing formation for the adult members of the parish along with all we do for our children. Each Thursday evening, there will be three components offered for adult formation and conversion of heart: two sessions for formation & instruction and an hour of prayer. This is how I hope Thursday night will work for you:

A - 6:30 to 7:30 PM

B - ADORATION 7:00 to 8:00 PM

C - 7:30 to 9 PM

A - Sessions will be offered to assist the parents of young families with all the issues they face. We will hope to offer sessions on subjects like: the home as "domestic church", John Paul II's Theology of the Body and any other issue the group may find helpful.  We hope to offer the nursery throughout Thursday evening. I am hopeful that after you parents leave the formation class, you will spend thirty minutes in Adoration (in the Church), with your children or as a couple or on your own.

B - Each Thursday, we will offer Adoration. This new "Thursday night of formation and prayer" is structured so that the adults and children of the parish might participate in both the offerings for formation and with adoration & prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, either before or after class.

C - The time slot of 7:30 to 9:00 PM will offer two different programs each semester. This fall Deacon Greg Ollick will offer a class on Apologetics. At the same time slot, but alternating Thursdays, I will offer another book club…a shared experience of reading together, and growing in our knowledge of the Lord. Deacon Greg and I will begin to publicize these two sessions in a few weeks.  My hope is that before you come to Lind Hall for either Deacon Greg's Apologetics or my book club sharing (or both), you will first spend thirty minutes before the Blessed Sacrament. Ongoing formation and prayer together…our recipe for the spiritual renewal we seek!

For all parents of our children and those parents of the young adults we call "teenagers", NOW is the time to sign up for our offerings in PSR (Tuesdays and Thursdays), EDGE and Life Teen (Wednesdays)  and Family Formation (family-based catechesis). Please contact any of the staff in the Religious Education office for details, at 770-923-6633, ext. 118

I hope that many of the adults reading this column will join me this fall, for our Thursday night sharing of a favorite book. I hope many of you will dedicate your Thursday night, attending Deacon Greg's Apologetics class. And, I hope all of you will remember to make Thursday night a time of prayer, before the Blessed Sacrament: 7 to 8 PM, in English; 8:15 to 9 PM in Spanish.
