(4) FYI: I am taking part in this year’s Atlanta Institute of Christian Spirituality, held at Ignatius House. The AICS, put on by Spring Hill College each summer, is a wonderful experience of study and prayer. Each year, instructors from Spring Hill and from area universities offer classes for ongoing adult formation. I have taken classes each summer, and I encourage the older teens and adults of our parish to consider being a part of the Institute next summer.
(5) On Wednesday of this week, we will celebrate Independence Day. The 4th of July is a day for hot dogs and watermelon, BBQ and baseball. The 4th of July is a day for family fun and fellowship. But, in addition to all of these summer delights, the 4th of July is the day when the citizens of this free nation should pause, and reflect on the cost of our independence, the price of our freedom... and the obligations each of us carry as citizens of these United States of America. Let us lift up in prayer, all who have given their lives in defense of our nation and those who this day, stand in harm’s way. Together, let us pray for the wisdom necessary to elect to public office men and women that will seek the common good, men and women that will hope to construct a just society. Let us pray for wisdom, that we may choose candidates for public office that will serve as guardians and protectors of the sacred gift of life and the blessed gift of this good earth. Have a wonderful and safe 4th . See all next weekend.
