We often consider the various jobs required as part of the task of Building a Legacy of Faith, and we are all continually aware of the urgent need for building funds. How many of us are willing to do the vital, yet sometimes awkward work, of asking for money... for any reason, much less for the new church building fund?
Enter Stark Harbour.
After graduating from the University of Mississippi, Stark moved to Atlanta, and met and married Kathleen McGinnis. To our good fortune, she was a parishioner at St. John Neumann and the two settled in Snellville. They were married in the SJN sanctuary in 1987, and have three sons – Stark, Jr., Chase, and Reynolds. Kathy remains actively involved in the parish as an aide/counselor at SJN Regional School.
As the owner of The Adams-Harbour Agency (insurance), Stark is accustomed to, and comfortable with, discussing uncomfortable subjects. Upon hearing our previous pastor ask for volunteers for fundraising, Stark immediately saw that as an area where he could give back to the community.
Stark’s efforts in the previous fundraising drive led to his current position within the BLF campaign as the Chairman of the Capital Committee (formerly called the Fundraising Committee). He coordinates the parish giving program in support of Building a Legacy of Faith, directing the effort to contact every family within the parish via personal meetings, group meetings, mail, email, and periodic updates delivered from the pulpit. We are off to a successful start, but the fundraising efforts must continue.
It’s particularly appropriate that we feature Stark in the bulletin this month, in the wake of our Blessing and Groundbreaking Ceremony held on March 4th.
Discussing his Chairmanship, Stark said: “It is vitally important to our family that we find a way to participate in making SJN a better place for the next generation. We were welcomed by the SJN families that had built the church. We have been the beneficiary of so much, volunteered by others. We hope to offer the same opportunity to the families looking for a place to call home that we found here over 20 years ago.”
Funding plans for the near future will include memorial opportunities within the new facility.
