Profiling Key Players in our Building a Legacy of Faith ProjectMeet Roger S. Huggins of Rogers Construction Co.
Quick Quiz:
What do the Sunrise Webb Ginn assisted living complex (Snellville), the Galleria at Sugarloaf (Suwanee), and Hopkins Elementary School (Lilburn) have in common?
Hint:
The answer also includes Jackson EMC headquarters and St. John Neumann Regional School.
The answer is Rogers Construction Company of Lawrenceville – the firm selected to serve as general contractor for our Building a Legacy of Faith project.
You may wonder what exactly that entails. The general contractor essentially is responsible for all major components of the actual construction project:
- Initial Sitework: The contractor ensures that the site preparation, grading, water management, and other fundamental “basics” are properly done before construction can begin.
- Structural: The contractor guarantees the integrity of the concrete foundation and structural steel (support walls) that form the skeleton of the new facility.
- Interior Rough-In: Overseeing the proper installation of all mechanical components – HVAC and duct work, electrical systems, plumbing, etc.—is a significant responsibility.
- Building Exterior: Another important job is making sure that the structures “facing” (brick, stucco, wood, or stone), roofing, windows and doors, painting, and so forth are up to code.
- Sitework: The contractor must see that all lighting, sidewalks, asphalt, communication lines, and other essential features are installed according to the plans.
- Interior Finishes: The company also ensures that drywall, hard ceilings, bathroom tile and fixtures, final painting, lighting fixtures, flooring, and other aesthetics are of the expected quality and function properly.
- Inspections: Finally, the contractor must deliver the finished production for inspection and sign-off by the county’s building inspectors, the fire marshal, and other officials.
For nearly 50 years, Rogers Construction has been providing general constructing and contracting services to clients from Texas to Virginia. Its projects list includes many schools in Gwinnett County, but also expands to include libraries, office buildings, shopping centers, warehousing, hotels, motels, nursing homes and other churches, such as St. Benedict in Duluth and the Korean Martyrs Catholic Church in Doraville. The company now turns its attention to the building of our new sanctuary.
