On October 8th, the Building a Legacy of Faith Steering Committee met to discuss the current status of the BLF project and the capital program. Highlights of the meeting include the following:
Four parish committees are actively engaged with the BLF project.Steering Committee - Monsignor Talley and Joe Creighton, Co-Chairmen. This committee is responsible for guiding all facets of the project
Design Review Committee - Joe Creighton, Chairman. This committee is charged with overseeing all design-related issues
Facility Committee - Tom Tarantino, Chairman. This committee deals with issues related to the “physical” aspects of the building program
Capital Committee (formerly Fundraising Committee) - Stark Harbor, Chairman. This committee coordinates the parish giving program in support of Building a Legacy of Faith. Two additional committees are now being formed:
Sacred Space – Monsignor Talley, along with other priests from the Archdiocese will make up this committee. They will be joined by two or three lay members of the parish. The committee’s role will be to study the architectural elements of the new worship space and ensure that they support the needs of the liturgy and the sacraments for all parishioners. The new worship space will be totally accessible to the disabled, whether serving on the altar, speaking from the ambo, or worshipping in the pews. Ed McCoy, a recognized authority on the needs of disabled individuals, will advise the committee in creating this state-of-the-art worship environment.
Interior Committee – Parishioner Theresa Hamilton will chair this committee charged with designing an attractive and appealing interior for the church that is consistent with the plans developed by the Sacred Space Committee.
Periodic reports from each committee will be presented in the bulletin as their work progresses.
CDH Partners of Marietta, the architectural firm for BLF, is in the process of creating the “civil drawings,” which will be reviewed with the general contractor, Rogers Construction Company of Lawrenceville. The final plans will be taken to the county authorities for approval. Ground-breaking would occur soon after the county’s approval is received.
Contributions to the BLF campaign remain strong despite the current economic climate. Over $3.2 million has been pledged so far, and the fundraising efforts are ongoing. All parishioners are urged to join in this campaign of spiritual renewal at St. John Neumann Church as we build our legacy of faith.
