Coming To The Fore

Today, we celebrate the fifth Sunday of Lent. No matter how you have entered into Lent up to today, today is the day... for conversion of heart. Let us turn away from everything and every one that aids in our self-destruction, and turn towards all that brings the Light and the Love of God into our hearts!

With our Dedication Mass now set for the 3rd of June, all the changes that the "new space" will elicit are coming to the fore. One such change will be in our Parish School of Religion offerings for the next academic year. Mrs. Laura Todd, the Coordinator of our "P.S.R." has designed a full pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade session for Sunday morning and for Tuesday evening.

We will need a whole new set of Catechists for the Sunday morning session. If you enjoy working with children and would like to pass on your Catholic heritage and Christian faith to the parish's young children, please contact Mrs. Laura Todd at 770-923- 6633, ext. 117 (Laura.Todd@sjnlilburn. com). Please know that all registered parishioners will have the opportunity to register this week; and if you are new to SJN and/or our PSR program, you can stop by the Religious Education office this week to pick up your registration forms. Pre-registration will be available from the 22nd of March to the 16th of April. Open registration will follow that, from the 20th of April and continuing throughout the summer. So, if you are a registered member of the parish and want to make sure your child has the desired session, whether Sunday or Tuesday, please register early!

Another issue that is coming to the fore is the parking at SJN. With the anticipated changes in our Sunday Mass schedule (more about that a bit later), parking will be an ongoing dimension in SJN planning. We will offer fewer Masses, but these Masses will hold almost twice the number as today's Sunday offerings. I suggest this to one and all: if you and your family are in good health, please park in the rear of the school, leaving the close-in parking for those that might struggle with the walk. Please make this your habit, giving away the "best" parking places to our seniors and to those who might have some health difficulty. Let's make this the new habit at SJN on the weekends, trying to park the farthest distance from church!

Along with the above-mentioned planning for our work with your young children, other programs are in planning mode as well: coordinators of both EDGE and Life Teen are looking to offer strong programs for our middle and high school teens. Deacon Greg hopes to offer a class on the Catechism of the Catholic Church on Mondays. I will host another Book Club Study Group on Thursdays. This study group will begin reading the works of the great St. Teresa of Avila (+1582). The Career Ministry Workshops and Financial Peace should continue, along with the various scripture study groups. In addition, a new ministry will take shape this fall, a ministry for young couples. This should also be a Thursday offering. More about that in due course.

On the 3rd of June, we will initiate a new worship space for SJN. This new place of worship will elicit other changes in the way we live and love and serve, as a Christ-centered parish family. It is my hope and it is my belief, that trusting in the Presence and promise of the Lord, our best days are ahead of us!

Remember to mark down the 3rd of June in ink!

Ministry Spotlight

Altar Linen Ministry

Ever wonder who launders the cloths  used  to wipe the chalice (purificators) at the daily and weekend masses?

We have a ministry of volunteers who gather up the used altar cloths and purificators each week, wash and press them, and then return them to the working sacristy for another week of use.
