The damage of the flooding is still apparent to this parish family. As I write this column, Lind Hall is still "out of commission". Our catechetical programs are back and running (maybe limping is the better description). Our partners, the regional school staff, are doing all they can, to get the children back into the routine of study and prayer and school fun. The interior of the Neumann Center has been demolished and we are looking to re-build that space to offer our families a beautiful pre-school experience for their children and grandchildren. The ministries are adjusting as best they can, with the temporary loss of meeting space. All in all, a pretty tough few weeks for us.
But we are here. We are here as disciples of the Lord Jesus. This Catholic Church in Lilburn is here, as a light for those in darkness, a loving home for those in need of care and compassion. We are here because Christ is with us and this Spirit of Christ's love has overcome the darkness... and the "flood waters" of life.

Not only have we survived the worst flood in anyone's recollection; but we are stronger for it. What I saw at the school and at the parish during those initial days of flooding filled my heart with another kind of flooding... the flooding of that living water that is the Spirit of God (John 7.37-38). So many of you gave of your time and your talents ... to the school, the parish, your neighbors, those in need. We served the needs of others, and the Lord was manifest in our work! This is what discipleship looks like: living the life of the Lord Jesus, each hour of each day; caring for each other as brother and sister (Matthew 25.31-46).
The damaging effects of the flood of 2009 are still apparent, but we are getting better all the time! Let's use our rescheduled Fall Festival as a time for fun and fellowship. A parish party is just what we need! We'll have our Viva Amore Dinner Dance on Friday the 23rd. Then on Saturday the 24th, we'll have tons of outdoor fun (the weather has to be good!). Make sure you get ready for these two days of fun... the 23rd and 24th... and a fall festival of fun! Please call the office if you have not purchased a ticket for the dinner dance. Come and join me in celebrating viva amore... we survived the flood!
We'll look to reschedule out Time & Talents Expo after we have been rejuvenated by our Fall Festival party. The party will give us renewed strength, to share the time and the talents that the Lord has provided each of us.
The Lord has given us so many gifts. Pulling together in this time of difficulty is a blessing for us. I am grateful for each of you.
