Thank God for Scouts

Please know that I am looking for a few donations of used lawn furniture for the rectory.  With the completion of their Eagles projects at the rectory, SJN teenagers Jared Lee and Nicholas Eberhart have created new spots for the priests to enjoy some outdoor relaxation: on the patio that is on the Tom Smith Road side of the house (next to the garage); and on the Wentworth Lane side of the house, on the new backyard deck. I don't want to spend our limited finances for something that is not essential (making the rectory a bit nicer for your priests), so I'll hope for a few donations of used outdoor furniture (chairs and tables and the like). I think I've already been promised a used grill!

By the way, in addition to Jared and Nick, Kevin Arputharaj, Kyle Cowdrick and Chase Rudell recently have completed their Eagle projects at SJN. I thank God for all of scouting (girls and boys) and ask all to support these worthy institutions of American goodness.

As we are at the end of August, the catechetical and ongoing formation programs of the parish are in high gear, preparing for the upcoming academic year. We have an outstanding group of programs to engage the whole family in the work of the Lord. Whether your young children attend our Parish School of Religion or our Family Formation program, our Pre-school program or the SJN Regional School next door... the young children of the parish are a joy, and our staff hopes to assist moms and dads in the formation of these children of God. Your middle-schoolers are invited to join the EDGE program and the teens at SJN are invited to be a part of the 5 PM Sunday Mass and the Life Teen ministry of the parish.  From pre-school munchkins through the young adults of 12th grade, our children and teens are invited to take part in this year's catechesis and ongoing formation. Please contact the Religious Education office for more details.

This call to ongoing formation in the Way of the Lord is not limited to our children and teens. Every adult reading this column is invited to take part in any or all of what will be offered: three different study sessions on the Book of Genesis; a course in Apologetics; a course on John Paul II's "Theology of the Body"; and a book club experience, reading a wonderful text on the spiritual life. Please check out all on our web-site (www.sjnlilburn.com).

Isn't it amazing, the construction project? Everything is on schedule. The Sacred Space and Interiors Committees have completed much of our work, as have the parishioners that make up the Audio Visual / I.T. Committee. We're doing all we can, to get as much as we can with each dollar you have given us. As I told you in the beginning, we will build all we can, with what you offer in gift. A bit later this fall, we will begin to discuss others ways that you might be able to assist us financially, in the purchase of stained glass windows and in dedicated memorial gifts.

With what is "growing" outside my window and with all that I see and hear at SJN, there is no doubt in my mind, that the Lord is blessing SJN, and the renewal we seek is beginning to bear fruit, all for the greater glory of God.
