Half Empty or Half Full?

What's that wonderful word picture...  is your glass half-empty...  or...  half-full? We are now at the mid-point of this holy season of Lent.  With the call of the Lord to repent and believe (Mark 1.15), what about your personal participation in the disciplines of Lent: half-empty or half-full? Now is the time... to begin to pray, to attempt to fast... to seek out a work of mercy. Now is the time...

If you have not done so already, please mark your appointment calendar for Monday evening, the 23rd of March. We will gather in the church at 7 PM for our Lenten Penance Service.  Please plan to join me in this wonderful sacrament of the Lord's Presence among us. We will have many priests from the surrounding parishes, assisting us in celebrating the wonderful gift of Penance & Reconciliation, the forgiveness of our sin. Be reconciled to God... be reconciled to the Church of Christ. Come and see how sweet, the mercy of the Lord.

Since the blessing and ground-breaking early this month, the  work of the various BLF committees is at full-speed. The designing and planning and coordination are no longer dedicated to some distant future. This stuff is ALL about to happen. And we will see a new worship space growing right in front of our eyes.

This is such a blessing for the parish family of SJN; but as with all such blessings, there are needs to be accomplished. We must be patient with one another, once traffic patterns have changed and all of us are walking a bit farther after parking our car.  We must continue our prayer for spiritual renewal, so that the Building a Legacy of Faith project is about more than buildings. And, for those of you that are reading this column and have not participated in the project with a sacrificial pledge, your time has come! I'll be speaking about this a bit more, a bit later.

Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him or her will bear much fruit, for without me you can do nothing (John 15.4-5). This describes SJN: fruitful branches connected to each other, connected to the Vine of Life.

Art & Environment

This committee is responsible for the environment in the Church and Donnellan Hall sanctuaries, and decorating the sanctuaries according to liturgical season. We work in teams of two throughout the year and especially at Christmas and Easter. Taking care of the sanctuary is a wonderful way to serve our Lord. Contact Bill Marten 770-923-6633 x114.
