While I'm Away

As you read this column, I’ll be away from the parish for a few days. I will attend a conference in Minneapolis, sponsored by Guesthouse, a treatment facility for priests. The conference will discuss the many issues of addiction as they relate to today’s priests. Since I am privileged to assist some of Atlanta’s deacons and priests in spiritual direction, this workshop should be of benefit to me. Sadly, addictive behavior and “compulsivity” are part of the landscape of the Church, for our deacons and priests… for all the baptized. Please pray for the success of the conference, that the therapists and directors attending may learn anew the ways of freedom in the Lord.

While I’m away at the conference, you’ll have several wonderful priests presiding at our liturgies, along with our own Fr. Armando. My friends… Fr. Joe Mendes, Fr. Bryan Small and Fr. Steve Yander have agreed to assist us in prayer. I am grateful for these brothers of mine. Please welcome them to the family!

Here are a couple of key happenings, important to SJN:

PLEASE make sure that you sign up… then… show up for your Olan Mills portrait. Our parish needs this new pictorial directory. We need each of you reading this column to be a part of this new directory. There is no cost to you, though you will have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits, for your family and friends.

On the evenings of the 20th, the 21st and the 22nd, I will host a discussion of the book all of us have been given, Matthew Kelly’s Rediscovering Catholicism. The discussion evenings will be in Lind Hall, from 7 to 9 PM each evening. All are welcome, so bring your book and share what the Lord has offered your heart through a reading of the text.

Our transitional Mass schedule will begin on the 2nd of August. Please make sure you keep a copy of the new Mass schedule handy.

Our Building a Legacy of Faith project is in high gear. As all know, the parishioners of SJN have pledged $3.2 M for this project; and with the redemption of this pledged amount and with the savings from the earlier campaign, plus the sale of some rooms in Seton Hall, we are building! We will build the whole foot-print of the two story structure, and complete the new worship space. With God’s help and the generosity of all of us, we’ll continue to seek funds, so that all we need to build will be built, as additional pledges are offered. It’s up to you and to me…

It is vital that each of us that have offered a sacrificial pledge make good on that pledge. The dollars redeemed each week-month-quarter are being spent on construction! The parish office will continue to send you a statement of your pledge and the total you have paid into the BLF project. Please spread this Good News, and rejoice in God’s love for us!
