Whispers and Shouts

In the proclamation of the Gospel today, we hear the Lord Jesus say to us: what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And so the questions for us: what does the Lord whisper to us? How does the Lord whisper to our hearts?

If you had to try and describe what the Lord Jesus means to you and us, what would you say? In the sacred scriptures, the Lord Jesus is described as the Vine, as the Way, as the Good Shepherd, as the Light, as the Lord. How do you understand Jesus of Nazareth? This Lord Jesus speaks to us today in the proclamation of the Gospel. Why is this proclamation good news for you? For us?

If we are to proclaim the Gospel from the housetops, this must mean that we are part of God’s plan, part of the unfolding will of God, here and now. How are you and I part of this plan of God, here at St. John Neumann?

There are many facets to the spiritual renewal of our parish family. Part of our renewal is in the way we grow closer to one another, in the fellowship of the faith-life of discipleship. Our new parish photo directory will be one of the instruments of this renewal of our love for one another.

The Lord knows that I need all the help I can get, granting my poor capacity to remember names! The soon-to-be published parish photo directory will be an asset to me and to us, as we learn more about this parish family that the Lord has invited us to be. My friends, please sign up to have your picture taken. We are registering for times & dates right now. A table with registration has been in our Vestibule for weeks now. Please make a commitment, to have your picture taken! If you would prefer, you can sign-up on-line, at www.signup.olanmills.com.

Let’s have EVERY parishioner (single, couple, family) as a part of this new effort in fellowship. Please call Mary Lou Schwaner for more details (678- 462-9911).

Several months ago, during the many receptions held to share our plans for our Building a Legacy of Faith project, I spoke to all about the call of the Lord to spiritual renewal. As I said at that time… and as I believe today… I was allowed to join this parish and to serve as your pastor for the sake of my spiritual renewal… and for your spiritual renewal. One element of this renewal discussed in those receptions was the “gift” of the book Rediscovering Catholicism, by Matthew Kelly (who was a speaker at this year’s Eucharistic Congress). Every parishioner that wanted this book was given a copy. Please know that I hope to offer three nights during July, for discussion of the book. These nights for discussion and sharing the fruits offered us in reading the book will be held in Lind Hall, on the 20th, the 21st and the 22nd of July, beginning at 7 PM each night. Please read through the book again, and be ready to share the gifts given! See you there.

Art & Environment

This committee is responsible for the environment in the Church and Donnellan Hall sanctuaries, and decorating the sanctuaries according to liturgical season. We work in teams of two throughout the year and especially at Christmas and Easter. Taking care of the sanctuary is a wonderful way to serve our Lord. Contact Bill Marten 770-923-6633 x114.
