Sunday: The Lord's Day

On the road to Emmaus, two disciples of Jesus were walking along with broken hearts, crushed about the horrible events of Good Friday… after the Crucifixion of their friend, a “stranger” joined them on their way. It was the Risen Lord Jesus but they did not recognize Him at first. Then, at the end of the day, as they sat together for a meal and Jesus broke the bread and shared it with them, they recognized Him, as their friend and their Lord.

Each Sunday, we gather together as a parish family and recognize Him in the Breaking of the Bread… holy Mass. Sunday is THE holy day for Christians. It is the Lord’s Day, a day for prayer and family, fellowship and thanksgiving.

Please know that after much thought and prayer, the staff of SJN has reformulated our Parish School of Religion offerings for 2008-2009. We did this in order to keep the focus of Sunday on the breaking of the bread, on family and fellowship. Next year, our classroom offerings for the children of the parish will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The only PSR offering on Sunday will be the familycentered formation program that involves the whole family, learning as one unit. Next year, we hope that SUNDAY will be the day for attending Mass together as a family. Tuesday & Wednesday will be the days for classroom catechesis, when the staff hope to assist our moms and dads in teaching the faith to our children. Please see the information about these changes inside this week’s bulletin.
