Sharing Their Gifts of Time and Talent

Greg Koerner - Prayer on the Mountain

Greg Koerner

How do you share your time & talents?

I am the music director for the Life Teen band here at SJN, as well as being a Core Member in our Youth Ministry Program. Our band provides music for the 6pm Sunday Mass, as well as our third Thursday Holy Hour of Adoration. I provide music for Wednesday’s Pizza & Prayer, as well as music for all of our Teen retreats. I also provide music for other parishes’ Teen Retreats when they do not have a band. I direct the band for the Archdiocese’s “XLT east” monthly event and have done many other events for the Archdiocese including “Atlanta’s Eucharistic Congress ‘06” youth section, “NCYC”, The annual Scout Mass and Catholic Youth day at Six Flags.

What got you started?

I have been active in Music & Youth Ministry for over 25 years and have a love for the energy and passion that our teens have for their faith. It is a joy and a blessing to our ministry when we see them “awaken” to the love Christ has for them. Why do you continue? I see the world that our young brothers and sisters are growing up in and feel called to help them grow in knowledge of their faith and strengthen it in a time when they are going through some of the biggest changes and challenges in their lives. To show them the love that Christ Jesus has for them despite what this world offers and to show them that our faith, the Catholic faith, is one to live by throughout our lives, not just on Sundays. The biggest reward is to witness the Spirit of God working through music to open the hearts, minds and souls of our brothers and sisters as we praise and worship before the Lord.

Favorite Moment?

When I’m leading worship before the Blessed Sacrament and I see the teens so deep in prayer, I can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit fill the room. I can see them change before me, as Moses did when he went up the mountain to speak to God. Their faces radiate with that same glow. I know that the Lord has touched them.

Ministry Spotlight

Usher Ministry

Are you being called to serve the Parish and feel you just don’t have the time or a talent to share?  I once thought that way myself.  Ushering may be the ministry for you. It’s a great way to serve the SJN community and meet more parishioners.  The role of an ushers is to greet our fellow parishioners with a warm hello, help them find seating if needed, assist in the offertory collections, and send them off with a bulletin and smile.  This is a ministry for both men and women.  If you are over 16 years old, you would be a welcome addition.

Please contact Jim Curtiss at jpcurt3333@yahoo.com or call 404-277-2044 if you are interested. There is no better way to show your love of God than to serve others!
