Deacon News

Pastor's Corner
This week I am pleased to announce that parishioners Mike Hayward and Paul Scibona have both been accepted into the Diaconate Formation Program for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Congratulations to both of them! Let us join together as a parish to support these two men and their families with our prayers and encouragement as they begin their studies in this vital ministry.  Keep also in your prayers Bill Marten and Greg Ollick as they continue in the program. The deacon is ordained not to priesthood but for ministry and service and these men studying for the diaconate have great role models here in our parish.  Gary Womack and Mike Byrne certainly embody the spirit of this ministry through assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries at SJN.
Recently Pat O’Buck, a long standing parishioner, approached me with the idea of starting a new committee focused on “Religious Vocations”.  Her presentation at our staff meeting was received enthusiastically.  Watch the bulletin for more
details on this new ministry.

Stewardship of Talents

Did you grow up envying your classmates who could play sports well, or play one or more instruments, or draw or sculpt? Have you ever stopped to consider that talents include many more abilities than merely athletic, artistic, or musical? In God’s Kingdom, each of us is given a talent according to our ability and the opportunity to use and develop that talent.  Jesus does not pass judgment on how many talents we have.   He holds us accountable for using the one we have to God’s glory.  Come and discover that talent which may be lying dormant within you!Copyright © 2006 Parish Publishing, LLC
